The effects of watching movies on the human psyche

There are various kinds of movies that provide what I've found to be the release and tension of the emotions.

The release of tension would clearly include movies whose specific intent and content is to provide comic relief by acting out scenarios filled with comedy and thus eliciting laughter.

This is a good therapeutic device for those who perhaps are constantly seeking escape from an abusive life of a life of perpetual hardship and toil.

Most will agree that whatever one's preference for movies is, it is most often an escapist device - one that creates a distraction from the present realities of this world even for a short time.

It is seen by many as a way to 'reinvigorate' or refresh themselves especially after a hard day's work  - what we commonly refer to as relaxation or entertainment.

Then there are movies that captivate or arrest the attention; spellbinding movies that keep your attention riveted on the screen from beginning to the end with plots and counter plots and twists and turns that leave one breathless at the end of the day.

These kinds of action-thriller movies pump you up with adrenaline and get you addicted to them,  hence most of them are commercialized into Parts 1, 2 & 3, maybe more; or they are run as TV Series.

Then there are the romantic movies that melt the heart and make you wish you had the ideal love and family life expressed in the movie.

The problem with all the varieties of movies is that when one eventually gets hooked on them, they start affecting the life at subliminal and unconscious levels of both speech and behavioural patterns whereby the viewer unconsciously begins to mold or pattern himself into the mindset and behaviour of the character he admires and identifies with the most.

Watch out for Part 2 of this series and don't forget to share!
