THE GROWING OF THE MIND PART 2
If therefore the mind has to 'grow up' so to speak, then in what ways?
Again the analogy of a child comes to mind. At the age of perhaps nine or even ten years in some cultures, it is still okay for a female child to play with dolls. But when the girl becomes a teenager, there is a certain discouragement from her parents - "No honey, you're too old for that now."
They expect the child to discard the PLEASURE she receives from playing with dolls and move on to something more mature such as sewing, knitting or even playing video games.
If the child is not weaned in this way from the pleasure of playing with dolls, she may cling to dolls long into her teenage years.
There is therefore a connection between the pleasure centres of the brain and maturity. Some men are womanizers today because they were never weaned from the PLEASURE of dating several women at will during their bachelor days.
Some women are still hung up on their gossip circles and cliques because they never weaned themselves from high school cliques and gossip circles and so they continue with them into real life.
In both instances, they never grew up in those areas. But it is not possible to itemize every area in which the mind needs to grow up, for it depends on the individual and mostly on the fantasies and pursuits of childhood days.
There are adults who grew up never really experiencing childhood delights because they perhaps came from a poor background, but in becoming adults, all such restrictions were removed. They could now afford almost anything they want and so they return back to their childhood days and pick up fantasies they would have indulged themselves in as children and introduce them into their adult life.
The sad thing about adults is that sometimes when there has been some form of deprivation in their childhood, they tend to retrogress back to childhood days to relive the childhood they were deprived of, especially if they can afford it.
